UMary’s Narbuvoll Named NCAA D2 Scholar Track Athlete of the Year, Marauders Track & Field Teams Earn All-Academic Team Honors

NEW ORLEANS – In a year of tremendous accomplishments for Ida Narbuvoll, the two-time University of Mary national champion added another program first to her portfolio. Narbuvoll was selected the 2021 NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This is the first time a UMary scholar-athlete has earned the award.

Today’s USTFCCCA release stated “Ida Narbuvoll was named the NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. Narbuvoll, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0, won the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Michigan. This is the first time U-Mary has earned an NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year award.”

The USTFCCCA previously had named Narbuvoll the organization’s 2021 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Narbuvoll Named NCAA D2 Scholar Track Athlete of the Year

Narbuvoll owns a 4.00 GPA while pursuing a master’s degree in Project Management. As an undergraduate, she posted a 3.76 grade point average while earning a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. She was named the 2021 Northern Sun Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning three titles at the conference championships and claimed the title of North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters College Female Athlete of the Year. The native of Norway won the 10,000 and the 5,000 meter runs at the 2021 NCAA outdoor championships, breaking a 36-year meet record in the 5K by over 20 seconds and now owns the second-best mark ever recorded in Division II history. A three-time NSIC Athlete of the Week in 2021 who won all eight times she raced this spring, Narbuvoll is a 9-time All-American.

The Marauders also received academic team honors and ten scholar-athletes garnered individual recognition for their achievements in the classroom and in competition.

Both the UMary men’s and women’s track & field teams earned 2021 All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. Additionally ten Marauders received All-Academic Athlete honors.

The UMary women’s team posted a 3.61 grade point average for the year while the men’s program generated a 3.35 GPA. The GPAs for both teams showed an increase over the previous year. This is the tenth straight year the women’s program has earned All-Academic Team honors and the eighth consecutive year for the men.

University of Mary Men’s Track & Field USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals

For a program to earn NCAA Division II All-Academic Team recognition, the cumulative GPA (not 2020-21 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution’s NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25, have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the 2021 NCAA Indoor and/or Outdoor Track & Field Championships as either an individual or part of a relay team, have completed 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours at the institution, and transfer and//or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
